TSA

TSA (Technology Student Association) is an international, student-based organization created to develop leadership skills and prepare students for future careers. Students learn self-confidence, personal development, and communication skills through competitions and assignments in a variety of areas, including: math, science, technology, engineering, design, and many more. TSA also provides students with opportunities to give back through community service. Supported by parents, educators, and business leaders worldwide, there are approximately 2,000 schools- totalling an approximated 250,000 schools in the contiguous United States that are members of TSA. Founded in 1978 (making it the oldest tech association in America), TSA welcomes those in middle and/or high school, and even Germany, Turkey, and Japan. The Polk County Chapter of TSA was started at Polk County High School in 2006 by lead adviser Ryan Goodman for his Engineering Design Classes because he wanted to give the students opportunities to learn leadership and competitive skills. He was later joined by co-adviser Dewey Esquinance with the Web Design classes. The first year was very successful with many wins at regional and state competitions. The club started out its first year with 17 members and has continued to grow since. Since then, PCHS has grown to provide over 15 different technology classes. The latest addition includes Mechatronics and Cyber Security classes. The students continue to participate in both state and national competitions with TSA as they celebrate 13 years in the Technology Students Association.
